Weekend Adventure to Uruguay

6 months in Argentina calls for a weekend off – so I took the bus to Buenos Aires and then I headed to the Buquebus (a ferry) to Colonia del Sacramento. The boats run 3 times a day and make travelling from Argentine to Uruguay incredible easy.

The city has two sections the first is the old part of town which is walled and you enter through an incredible gate. This part of the town was declared a World Heritage Site (by UNESCO) and is a fusion of Spanish, Portages with post-colonial architecture. Wandering down the cobbled streets and squares it is the perfect place to sit in a cafe and people watch.

I stayed in Punta de San Pedro near the city’s lighthouse. The lighthouse was build over the ruins of the Saint Francis Convent, and I climbed to the top, scrambling up the 111 steps. The view from the top is spectacular, it is the only way to look out over the city and the Rio de la Plata.

I really enjoyed visiting the Portuguese Museum and the Native Indian Museum, another stop is the Santíssimo Sacramento Basilica. One of the oldest churches in Uruguay built in 1680.

Te Conozco? I love this street artist who’s work is found through out Uruguay.
