Eat the Seasons : Summer

The first ripe peach of the season!

It doesn’t matter where you are in the world but when summer comes you can tell by the fruits on sale. In England we always feel the mark of summer comes when you buy English strawberries and raspberries and that is true here in Argentina except this summer are trees have an abundance of summer fruits and we are “jamming” like crazy to stay on top of such incredible fruits.

Plums, Peaches and Green Gages – all waiting to be turned in to jams.

Here at the estancia the fruits are ripe one moment and the next they are being devoured by our guests, gauchos, horses and of course many a wasps is swarming around. Every time we have some time to spare we grab our buckets and head to the closest tree and start picking.

Along with jams we have been making flavoured gin, vodka and brandy to be opened later on in the season!!

Horses helping out with the peach picking as well!
