Hydra

This week I took a trip to Hydra, one of the Saronic Islands in Greece, like Odysseus we navigated the Aegean Sea and arrived at the crescent-shaped harbour of Hydra Port. The harbour shape like a moon is the centre of the town, surrounded by a mix of tourists shops, markets, galleries and places that the locals visit.

It is a small island so a few days here are enough, unless the weather is fabulous and you want to spend endless days lying on a rock in the sun. What struck me most about the town is the attractive exquisite architecture. The town is built on the hill and the narrow cobbled streets and picturesque stone houses are incredible but make it impossible to have a car! Be prepared for hours of walking up and down steep stairs and navigating a maze of streets.

Shops line the edge of the bustling port.
